Embroidery Art: Walking Amongst The Stars

    May 21, 2021 /

by Keith Richmond Walking Amongst The Stars is an art piece that shows a girl made out of embroidery filled with white paint to give her the biggest focal point of the piece. I created this piece for pure enjoyment and it does not have any hidden meaning behind it. I thought the idea was really interesting and just went with it. The girl in the art piece is walking on clouds that have a sunset behind them. The sunset is made out of watercolor, this allows for it to look softer and have less of a presence. The sunset gives the clouds various color definitions allowing for the oranges…

    Embroidery Art: Looking For Honey

    May 21, 2021 /

by Keith Richmond The artwork I have created is an embroidery piece that uses different shades of brown to make a geometric bear. Each shade helps represent the movement of the bear and gives it more flow. The direction of the string helps show the bear is not flat and adds value to the bear to make it look more detailed. The materials I used to create this art piece are embroidery floss, Muslin cloth, and an embroidery hoop. When I first started I had to sketch out the geometric shapes and make sure that is what a sketched bear would look like. I ended up having to redo it…

    Embroidery Art: Melting Away

    May 21, 2021 /

by Keith Richmond I created this piece of art using embroidery. This piece of art shows how the life a person lives and all the pressures around them starts to melt them slowly away and leaves nothing behind. I really personally like the idea of this piece. The reason I like it so much is that I like the message that this piece portrays. I used embroidery to make this art piece and no other forms of media. When I first started the creation process I started with the inside of the head. To create this type of texture and kind of abstract look I used a stitch called a…

    The Wonders of Mundanity

    May 21, 2021 /

by Jagger Raines It has been over a year since everything changed in the wake of the ongoing global pandemic. In over twenty years of being on this planet, I never expected to live through such a time of uncertainty and immeasurable change. Add all of the events that occurred over the past year with an anxious college student and what do you get? A slightly less anxious college student who is a lot more introspective and willing to find levity in such uncertain times. Although quarantine has taken me through multiple emotional highs and lows, I feel as though it has helped me come to a better understanding of…

Poem Review: Harry Baker’s “Dinosaur Love”

    May 21, 2021 /

by Nick McClure Harry Baker is a British poet who rose to fame when he claimed victory as the “World Slam Poetry Champion” in 2012. He is very recognizable due to his fascinating use of repetition in a lot of his work. Today I will be looking at and reviewing on of his most viral poems of all time “Dinosaur Love”. This is a poem that one could share with a significant other, it has a very charming and emotional way of getting the point across that whoever the reader is at the time loves the person they may share it with. Harry uses lines like “I’ll always have your…

Robbins Theatre & Kent State Trumbull

    May 21, 2021 /

by Sebastian Marconi Questions answered by Kent State University Trumbull Faculty Member Eric Kildow While doing another educational program, I lived in Trumbull County (Niles) for about a year and a half before I started classes at KSUT. Prior to moving back to my hometown (I live on the west side of Cleveland), I found that many local people in the Trumbull area I’ve gotten to know think there isn’t much to do. While aspects of this might be true considering how badly the Youngstown-Warren Region has been affected by deindustrialization, I decided it might be a good effort to not only explore interesting assets to the area, but also…

    Wide Awake

    May 21, 2021 /

by Kianna Jackson You know those moments in life that you regret and wish with every fiber of your being you could change? And you know those nights when you can’t sleep? When you just lay awake in bed at 3:46 am and reflect on those regrets and think of all the things you could have done differently? Well, we might as well be twins because I’m having that moment right now. This usually happens to me like once a month. When I feel like my life is one big shit show and how I wish that I could change these moments in my life. I’ve always felt like I…

    Recovery…

    May 21, 2021 /

by Madison Higgins This last year has been incredibly hard on all students. We have been figuring out how to lead ourselves through school rather than having teachers lead us. The time we put into school has almost tripled and all of it has been behind a computer screen isolated to homes. All of that would be hard for someone who has good mental health and positive self image, but for students with mental illnesses and eating disorders, this time has been more than hard, it’s been impossible. For me, my eating disorder took over my life. Suddenly, I was around food all day, everyday with no one but myself.…
