Poem Review: Harry Baker’s “Dinosaur Love”
by Nick McClure Harry Baker is a British poet who rose to fame when he claimed victory as the “World Slam Poetry Champion” in 2012. He is very recognizable due to his fascinating use of repetition in a lot of his work. Today I will be looking at and reviewing on of his most viral poems of all time “Dinosaur Love”. This is a poem that one could share with a significant other, it has a very charming and emotional way of getting the point across that whoever the reader is at the time loves the person they may share it with. Harry uses lines like “I’ll always have your…

Robbins Theatre & Kent State Trumbull
by Sebastian Marconi Questions answered by Kent State University Trumbull Faculty Member Eric Kildow While doing another educational program, I lived in Trumbull County (Niles) for about a year and a half before I started classes at KSUT. Prior to moving back to my hometown (I live on the west side of Cleveland), I found that many local people in the Trumbull area I’ve gotten to know think there isn’t much to do. While aspects of this might be true considering how badly the Youngstown-Warren Region has been affected by deindustrialization, I decided it might be a good effort to not only explore interesting assets to the area, but also…

Wide Awake
by Kianna Jackson You know those moments in life that you regret and wish with every fiber of your being you could change? And you know those nights when you can’t sleep? When you just lay awake in bed at 3:46 am and reflect on those regrets and think of all the things you could have done differently? Well, we might as well be twins because I’m having that moment right now. This usually happens to me like once a month. When I feel like my life is one big shit show and how I wish that I could change these moments in my life. I’ve always felt like I…

Recovery…
by Madison Higgins This last year has been incredibly hard on all students. We have been figuring out how to lead ourselves through school rather than having teachers lead us. The time we put into school has almost tripled and all of it has been behind a computer screen isolated to homes. All of that would be hard for someone who has good mental health and positive self image, but for students with mental illnesses and eating disorders, this time has been more than hard, it’s been impossible. For me, my eating disorder took over my life. Suddenly, I was around food all day, everyday with no one but myself.…

The Way We Learn About Love
A Commentary on COVID-19, Love, Loss, and the Positive and Negative Changes of Our Time by Nicholas D’Antonio The first virus hit early 2020. The second one emerged in the fall of 2035 and I am sure I will never forget those seasons. My grandfather caught it twice, he survived the first time. Lately, it had been on my mind to a point of obsession. It was always like this the month or so preceding his death anniversary. At least it had been this way the past two years. I did not expect the third year to be any different. Three years ago I was a senior in high school…

Rites of Passage
By: Sam Carden The following was initially wrote as an essay for the Intro to College Writing class with Dr. Ana Wetzl. Enrolling in college for any reason is life-changing for anybody. The overused reason for enrolling tends to be money. Another reason would be peer pressure due to the majority of high school graduates hearing and seeing their peers going to college to try to make a better life. As a veteran with an associate degree, the reason I have chosen is for a rite of passage into a professional nursing career. Rites of passage occur in different cultures in almost all countries around the globe. The purposes of…

Human Trafficking
by Amber Fry and Polly Batchelder What to Look for in Human Trafficking People are going missing every day and the numbers in Ohio keep rising. According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, there have been 450 cases of human trafficking last year. That has gone up from 444 cases in 2018, and 377 cases in 2017. (These just reports from this Hotline only.) So when dealing with human trafficking, what do you look for? There are many different warning signs, and things to be cautious about. One way they find victims is through social media. The way human traffickers use social media is by friending you, and gaining your…
